[ARCHIVED] Ramsey’s Building Inspection Technician, Katy Hauan, Awarded Educator of the Year by Association of

Ramsey’s Building Inspection Technician, Katy Hauan, is being recognized by the Association of Minnesota Building Officials (AMBO) as the AMBO Educator of the Year.  She will receive this special honor at the AMBO Chapter meeting on Tuesday, February 13 at 4:30 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Conference Center in Chaska, Minnesota.  

The Association of Minnesota Building Officials is a Chapter of the International Code Council (ICC).  According to their website, AMBO was founded in 2002 and works to support affordable public safety in the built environment and the efficient administration of construction codes.  AMBO participates in relevant state legislative activity, in code development, and in professional education and training for the industry.  

The AMBO Educator of the Year Award is presented to an individual that is active in the education and training of Building Inspectors, Building Officials, and others involved in Code Administration around the State.

Katy has served multiple terms as President of the Minnesota Building Permit Technicians Association (MBPTA).  As such, she has worked to develop the MBPTA program into an approved education sponsor, securing approved continuing education hours for the educational segments of nearly all MBPTA meetings.  She has been instrumental in developing the MBPTA Educational Scholarship program which offers multiple educational scholarships for MBPTA members.  Katy works with planning committees to help produce both the Annual Institute for Building Officials and the International Code Council Region III Institute.  Earlier in her career, Katy was also an important player in developing the Minnesota State College and University program in Building Inspection Technology; Permit Technician Occupational Certificate.

Katy has worked in the City of Ramsey’s Building Department since 2003. “Katy embodies the City’s Core Values and Strategic Initiatives by serving as a role model in customer service and ‘smart, citizen-focused government.’ Katy has led multiple initiatives to improve the customer experience for our permit customers, helping the City advance its economic development goals,” Tim Gladhill, the City’s Community Development Director said of his team member.  “Through Katy’s leadership, Ramsey has been able to expand access to our services and dramatically improve the experience of our customers.  In addition, her dedicated work to her profession as President of the Minnesota Building Permit Technicians Association has expanded her leadership role throughout the State of Minnesota, provided valuable educational opportunities, and benefitted numerous peer communities.”
