Fire Permits and Policies

The Fire Inspection Department is responsible for new construction plan review and inspections at various stages of construction to ensure compliance with the Minnesota State Fire Code, City Ordinances and the Life Safety Code. The Fire Inspection Department also conducts routine life safety fire inspections of existing commercial, industrial and multi-family residential structures to ensure continued compliance with Minnesota State Fire and Building Codes for the safety of the building occupants, the volunteer firefighters and for our community.


The Fire Prevention Bureau is located at 7550 Sunwood Drive. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Personnel can be reached by phone 763.427.4452, fax 763.427.7071, or by emailing Carey Schiferli.


The following fire permits shall be obtained from the Fire Prevention Bureau PRIOR to engaging in the following activities, operations, practices or functions.
