  1. Volunteer Sought to Help with Homelessness Study

    Volunteers sought to help with homelessness study Wilder Research has asked regions across the state to count the number of people experiencing homeless in their communities, and Anoka County is seeking volunteers for this effort, which will take place Oct. 25 at various locations around the county. Trainings will be provided on how to conduct face-to-face interviews with the homeless. These trainings are scheduled 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and 2 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in room No. 552 of the Anoka County Government Center, 2100 3rd Ave., Anoka. Visit http://www.anokacounty.us/2018MnHomelessStudy to sign up for the trainings or for more information about this initiative. A self-guided training is available for those who have participated in past studies and will be posted on the 2018 Minnesota Homeless Study webpage toward the end of September.

  2. Anoka Community Connect

    Oct. 25 event organized to help the homeless Anoka Community Connect is a one-day event dedicated to helping people who may be homeless or living with others. It will be held 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Church of St. Timothy, 707 89th Ave. NE, Blaine. This event gives people who are struggling to find stable housing access to resources and services that can make a difference in their daily lives. Free haircuts, flu shots, blood pressure checks, help with resumes, tips on how to successfully interview and housing information are just a few of the services to be offered. Employers will be looking for people to hire 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a free bag lunch will be given to those who attend.     Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over Ramsey. Get to know the constellations like The Big Bear, Cygnus the Swan, Pegasus the Winged Horse, and some of their great stories behind them. We’ll also use large reflecting telescopes, including two giant reflector telescopes that are among the biggest mobile scopes in Minnesota for close up views of the moon, Saturn, star clusters, galaxies and other magic in our autumn skies. Mike will also bring a telescope-astrophotography system for really distant targets such as galaxies millions of light years away.

Ms. Sandarin is certified in several forms of yoga and is registered with the Yoga Alliance. She has been practicing and teaching many forms of yoga for well over 15 years. Classes are led by Logan Thompson, licensed Zumba instructor. Bring with you a water bottle and athletic clothing and shoes.
